At UBH of Denton, we are saving adolescent lives. UBH provides a safe environment to stabilize at risk youth. Many adolescents have mental health problems that interfere with their normal development and daily life activities. Some mental health problems are mild, while others are more severe. Adolescents can have mental health disorders that interfere with the way they think, feel, and act. When untreated, mental health disorders can lead to school failure, family conflicts, drug abuse, violence, and even suicide.
- Studies show that at least one in five children and adolescents have a mental health disorder.
- Suicide is considered to be the second or third most common cause of death among youth.
- Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health problems that occur in children and adolescents.
- Attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects an estimated 4.1 percent of youths ages 9 to 17.
- Eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, are common among adolescent and young women in the US.
Signs of difficulties may be any of the following:
- Suicidal thoughts or actions; thoughts of death
- Depression
- Withdrawn Behavior
- Mood Swings
- Physical acting out towards self, others, or objects.
- Alcohol and/or drug abuse
- Inability to cope with problems and daily activities
- Change in sleeping and/or eating habits; intense fear of weight gain
- Excessive complaints of physical ailments
- Defiance of authority, truancy, theft, and/or vandalism
- School problems: behavioral and/or academically
- Frequent outbursts of anger

Family Involvement
At UBH we recognize that family involvement is essential to the treatment process. Through the
use of individual family sessions and involvement in groups, the family is educated on mental health issues, conflict
resolution, effective communications and parenting skills.
Discharge Planning
Discharge Planning is initiated upon admission and is in place at discharge. Through ongoing
communication with the referring professional, the patient and family experiences a smooth transition to community based
services or residential programs.
Call the UBH Care Center
The UBH Care Center accepts referrals, inquiries, and information calls 24 hours seven days per week. Qualified Mental Health Professionals answer the Care Center Line and will provide free initial assessments to
determine the most appropriate level of care that may help individuals with mental health and/ or chemical dependency
problems. When indicated, licensed psychiatrists will determine when hospitalization is required.
