University Behavioral Health provides inpatient psychiatric treatment for adults, age 18 years of age and older. UBH provides inpatient crisis stabilization to patients who are suffering from a mental health and/or a chemical dependency condition. Patients are admitted for treatment of problems such as: depression, addictions, chronic suicidal ideation, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and other serious psychiatric conditions.

The focus of treatment is to stabilize the patient and refer to a lower level of appropriate care. The emphasis of treatment for our patients is to provide the quality and quantity of treatment required to assist both the patient and his or her family to work toward a smooth transition into the community, with the greatest possible degree of appropriate independent functioning. The Adult Program consists of Adult Acute Psychiatric Services, Chemical Dependency Care, Dual Diagnosis track, and the Intensive Care Unit.

Adult Acute Program provides for initial assessment of adult psychiatric patients. During the length of stay, the program initiates and develops treatment and discharge plans. The program promotes and facilitates the patients' independent functioning in daily activities. Emphasis is on providing care, treatment, and services that will enable the patients to return to and function in the community at the earliest possible time.

Adult Detox provides treatment for patients with primary substance abuse disorders who require detoxification from substances. Detoxification Services for the client who needs relief from the physical discomfort of withdrawal or for safe stabilization that may need non acute medical monitoring.

Detoxification staff are seasoned professionals including but not limited to Physicians, RN s, LPN s, and therapists who are all trained in the complexity of the withdrawal of substances.

Dual Diagnosis program is for patients who are diagnosed with both substance abuse disorders and psychiatric illness. Full attention is given to both problems. The clinical approach is tailored to address the interaction of the substance abuse and the psychiatric problem.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a specialized unit that provides closer observation for patients who pose a high risk for harming themselves or others, are exhibiting severe emotional distress, or require intensive behavioral interventions.

Discharge Planning is initiated upon admission and is in place at discharge. Through ongoing communication with the referring professional, the patient and family experiences a smooth transition to community-based services or residential programs.

The UBH Care Center accepts referrals, inquiries, and information calls 24 hours seven days per week. Qualified Mental Health Professionals answer the Care Center Line and will provide free initial assessments to determine the most appropriate level of care that may help individuals with mental health and/ or chemical dependency problems. When indicated, licensed psychiatrists will determine when hospitalization is required.
